Does freedom of expression exist if you can’t be heard? If our voices are not heard, are we invisible? If music and laughter are the only forms of expression we are allowed, is our intellect discounted? These are fundamental questions we are facing today in an era of media consolidation and the corporate control of news. However, we need not be silent. We can and will be heard!
We invite your thoughts and opinions on a wide range of issues. It is clear that many of us have much to say, many important opinions to express but have no outlet to make our views known. And when events happen in our community the news media seems to generally respond to crisis or tragedy, and seldom reports on the day-to-day activities that sustain many of our communities. To the outside world, Black life is one running tragedy.
Here is your opportunity to change the discourse. Become one of our Street Voices by writing an article on an issue you deem important to Black men or our community in general, reporting on an incident in the community, or submit an article expressing your opinion on a particular subject.
Don’t have the time to write a full-length article but you still have something to say? If that’s the case, simply share your thoughts through our Talk Back Blog or send us an audio clip expressing your point of view for our Podcasts. And if you want us to really “feel” your point of view, become a Video Voice by sending us a video clip giving your point of view.
Don’t wait for the morning paper, six o’clock local television evening news or Sunday morning talk shows, or radio talking heads to paint an accurate picture of our community or understand and take seriously your opinions. We have the tools and power, and the means to frame our story. Whether by text, video or audio – Be Heard!
